At Black Finch our goal is be the outer representation of your inner style and sophistication because we believe that strong, beautiful women deserve strong, beautiful uniforms. We know the details and facts about our scrubs and if you follow us on social media, then you know them as well as we do, but hearing it from us doesn’t always hit home like it does when you hear it from someone who has worn them and loved them.
Kasey Harrison is a NICU Transport Registered Nurse, who recently tried a pair of Black Finch scrubs. She’s extremely active. When Kasey isn’t at work, she would most likely be found surfing at the beach or camping with her two rescue pups, Max and Bella. Kasey is the definition of on-the-go. Her feedback was so positive and spot-on to what we, at Black Finch, believe the scrubs to be. We wanted to share with you how she describes them!
The Black Finch scrubs have so many features that I love and now can’t live without! To start, they are 100% wrinkle free. I wore the Black Finch scrubs on Monday, washed them and threw them in the dryer, pulled them out Tuesday morning after sitting in the dryer all night and they were perfect! Totally ready to wear! I didn’t see one wrinkle on them… talk about a time saver! I also accidentally left two towels in the load and there was ZERO lint on the scrubs. I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t have time to iron our wrinkles and lint roll every inch of their scrubs in the morning. With Black Finch, I no longer have to worry about showing up with wrinkled, linty scrubs.
On another note, how many of you have issues with scrubs that are too stiff? As a NICU Transport RN, I need scrubs that stretch with my every movement. Until Black Finch, I was always nervous about my scrubs tearing if I squatted too low. Now, the deeper the squat the better! I know Black Finch scrubs will support every move I make! The best part is that they never get stretched out. With their 4-way stretch feature, they go right back to where they started!
Despite my days starting pretty early, I am NOT a morning person, AT ALL. I never have been, and I never will be. My mornings are usually a little hectic and involve a bit of rushing, which ends up with me being a little clumsy and spilling some part of my breakfast on me. When I wore my Black Finch scrubs for the first time, I spilt coffee and grapefruit juice on them. I was immediately frustrated, but when I looked down, I noticed that each time the liquid just beaded up and wiped right off. There was no stain or remaining residue! We all spill things now and then and to not have the reminder on our scrubs all day, is so refreshing!
Let’s face it, we all live busy lives. That’s why I am obsessed with my Black Finch scrubs. My workload demands me to bring my best self every minute of every day, while caring for the tiniest, most fragile humans. The scrubs are breathable, wrinkle free and still look great at the end of the day. I’ve even worn them to happy hour after my shift and didn’t feel under dressed.
As a NICU transport RN no two days are ever alike, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. My days are intense, both mentally and physically. I am constantly challenged with taking care of the most fragile and tiniest patients, while striving to earn the trust of their parents. When I put on my Black Finch scrubs, I feel confident, professional and motivated to be the best version of myself.
I’m obsessed with these scrubs! I never miss a beat at home and now thanks to Black Finch, I never miss a beat at work either.

We Know You Have Grit
Black Finch evolved from our passion to succeed. It stemmed from our drive to persevere. Black Finch evolved with Grit.
Motivation is often the reason entrepreneurs start a new business, but motivation is not what ultimately makes them successful. “Grit” is a positive, non-cognitive trait based on an individual’s perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular long-term goal.
Because we refuse to ever give anything less than 100%, we have found success in pursuing our dreams of being business owners. In today’s day and age, where there seems to be so many “overnight successes” it is important to remember that these big wins didn’t come on a whim or by a stroke of luck. Just like you spent 4-8 years in school to become the professional that you are, entrepreneurs that succeed have been working towards greatness for longer than it seems. The entrepreneurs that become a success possess similar qualities, including determination, resilience and optimism, but the one thing that sets them apart is grit.
What Is Grit?
Here is a definition of grit from psychologist and researcher, Angela Duckworth:
“Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term and meaningful goals.” – Angela Duckworth
Grit is both a skill and a trait. It’s the ability persevere when you face obstacles that don’t appear to have a solution- ones that the general public would quit before solving. It’s having direction and commitment with an intense passion to succeed. When you have this type of passion, you find ways to stay committed to a long-term goal or task that may be difficult or boring.
Along with passion, grit is about perseverance. It’s sticking with it and continuing to work hard even after experiencing a difficulty or failure. The ability to be gritty is an essential trait of success, but just because someone is talented or intelligent, doesn’t mean that they have grit.
“Even if some of the things they had to do were boring, or frustrating, or even painful, they wouldn’t dream of giving up. Their passion was enduring.” – Angela Duckworth
Why Is Grit Important?
Grit is a driver of achievement and success that is independent of what talent and intelligence contribute. Everyone can agree that being naturally smart, talented or athletic is awesome, but to truly succeed in all aspects of life, we must possess the ability to persevere. If you lack grit, being smart and talented may simply leave you on the outside of your full potential.
Duckworth’s research shows us that it wasn’t IQ and natural talent that made the biggest difference in who was successful and who wasn’t – it was all about effort. Duckworth came up with two equations to explain this concept:
Talent x effort = skill
Skill x effort = achievement.
Angela Duckworth explains that talent is how quickly your skills improve when you invest effort. Really, effort counts twice as much for what we want to achieve. Our potential is one thing, but what we actually do with it, is another.
Duckworth explains, “The attraction of thinking that people are gifted or special in a way we aren’t, call it the “X” factor or call it “genius,” is derived from our insecurity, really. Because if I say that Einstein’s a genius, then you don’t have to compete with him because he is not in your category. When you say ‘You know what? A lot of that success comes from dedicated hours of practice and thought,’ then you are a little bit responsible to see how well you can do.”
Duckworth continuously challenges that by having confidence in grit relies on us, as individuals.
How To Develop Grit?
As mentioned earlier, grit is both a trait and a skill. This means you can still acquire grit over time. It can be taught, and you can train your grit over time.
Here are three ways to develop and strengthen your grit:
Embrace challenges and failures that come with passion
